How We Treat Emergencies Fast

Same Day Relief, Calm Care, Clear Answers

When you call with an urgent dental concern, our team moves quickly. We gather key details over the phone so we can prepare for your arrival. Whenever possible, we offer same-day appointments for urgent problems, and we hold time in the schedule for emergencies because dental pain does not wait.
Your emergency visit begins with a focused conversation about what happened, when symptoms began, and how severe your pain is. We then complete a targeted exam of the problem area. Digital X-rays are taken as needed so we can see what is happening inside and around the tooth. Quick imaging lets us diagnose fractures, hidden decay, infections, or problems with existing dental work.
**Treatment depends on what we find. **
Your comfort matters. We use local anesthesia and additional comfort techniques as needed. We will explain every step clearly before we begin, so there are no surprises. At the end of your visit, you leave with a plan, written instructions, and clear information about any next steps, costs, and insurance coverage.

What To Do Before You Arrive

Simple Steps That Protect Your Tooth And Ease Pain

Young man losing a tooth

Knocked Out Tooth

Pick up the tooth by the crown, not the root. If it is dirty, give it a gentle rinse with clean water. Do not scrub or remove tissue fragments. If the tooth will go back into the socket easily, place it there and hold it with light pressure using gauze or a clean cloth. If that is not possible, store the tooth in cold milk, saline, or your own saliva. Time is critical, so call us immediately. If it is after hours and you cannot reach us, go to the emergency room right away.

Broken Or Chipped Tooth

Rinse your mouth with lukewarm water to clear debris. If you locate the broken piece, bring it with you. Use a cold compress on the cheek to reduce swelling. If a sharp edge irritates your tongue or cheek, you can cover it with dental wax or sugar free gum until you are seen.

Severe Toothache Or Swelling

Rinse gently with warm salt water. You may take over-the-counter pain medication that you would normally use, unless a health care provider has told you not to. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gum because it can irritate tissue. If you notice facial swelling, keep your head elevated and apply a cold compress to the outside of the face in short intervals. If swelling is affecting breathing or swallowing or you develop a fever, go to the emergency room immediately.

Lost Filling Or Crown

If a crown comes off and the tooth is sensitive, try to place it back over the tooth using temporary dental cement from a pharmacy, or even toothpaste if that is all you have, to protect the exposed tooth surface. Know that the crown is not secure, so be careful as it could pose a choking hazard. Do not use glue. If the tooth is not sensitive, it is often best to leave the crown off and avoid chewing anything crunchy on that tooth to prevent damage. Call us so we can recement or replace it properly.

When To Call For A Dental Emergency

Know What Is Urgent And What Can Wait

Not every chipped tooth needs to be seen at midnight, but some dental situations should be treated as urgent. If you are in significant pain, have swelling, have a tooth that has been knocked out, or notice signs of infection, contact Wall Street Dental Group right away. Quick action often preserves teeth, shortens recovery, and prevents more complex treatment later.

Pain that wakes you from sleep, throbbing discomfort that lingers after hot or cold, or pain when biting can indicate deep decay or an infection inside the tooth. These concerns rarely improve without care. Facial swelling, puffy gums, or a bump that drains fluid near a tooth may signal an abscess. An untreated abscess can spread and become serious, so do not wait.

Dental injuries from sports or accidents also deserve fast attention. A cracked or broken tooth can expose the inner layers of the tooth to bacteria. If a permanent tooth is knocked out completely, time matters. The sooner we see you, the better the chance we can save it.

Lost fillings, broken crowns, and loose bridges are not always true emergencies, but they can lead to sensitivity and further damage if left alone. Call our office and we will help you decide whether you need a same-day visit or the next available appointment.

If you have heavy bleeding that will not slow, swelling that affects breathing, or trauma involving the head or jaw, call your local emergency number or go to the nearest hospital emergency department first. Your safety always comes before dental repair. We can coordinate follow-up care once you are stable.
